: do not give in to evil but proceed ever more boldly against it :

You’re kidding. One night stands are immoral?

Every once in a while, you see something refreshing, like this, that helps you to not completely write off humanity.

Quite possibly the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read

What happens when 42 midgets try and fight an African lion? Sounds like the set up to a punchline, right?

But this is no joke.

If it weren’t true, it would be funny. But it is true, and it had tragic results.

Just another reminder to not be cruel to animals . . . they just might be cruel right back.

The Prize Winner of Defiance, OH

I saw The Prize Winner of Defiance, OH last night starring Julianne Moore and Woody Harrelson, directed by Jane Anderson.

I’d recommend it. It’s an inspiring true story about a woman who supports her alchoholic, tempermental, and sometimes-volatile husband and their 10 children by entering (and winning - almost always) jingle contests.

I didn’t love Harrelson’s performance. It kept waffling between scary and comical . . . almost from moment to moment . . . but I loved Moore’s performance.

Read more about it at Amazon.

Romney vs. McCain

What is it they always say when it comes to warfare? Take the battle to the enemy and make him defend himself on his own soil . . . that way you keep him off your own?

I like what Romney is doing here. He’s raising money in Phoenix, AZ, McCain’s backyard.

And I’m all for this. Governers make better Presidents than Senators.

Beyond the Gates of Splendor

Tonight my wife and I watched the documentary, “Beyond the Gates of Splendor“.

In 1956 five American missionaries were murdered by the savage Waodani tribe in the Amazon basin of Ecuador as they tried to make contact with the Waodani. The wives and children of the missionaries then do something remarkable. . .they go into the jungle, to the Waodani, to serve and love them.

It’s the most amazing story about forgiveness and love that I have ever seen. And it’s true.

Your heart will be touched. You must see this.

Generating Extra Income using the Internet

(NOTE: Here’s an article I wrote for a recent panel I spoke on.)

Generating Extra Income using the Internet
By Drex Davis
March 5, 2006

It’s EASY to sell over the Internet. Precisely because it’s easy, it’s HARD! What do I mean? If there is an easy way to make money, a lot of people will be drawn to it. Because so many people are drawn to the ease of making sales over the internet, the sheer number of online businesses can make it hard for your business to get found. Without a good strategy, it’s HARD to get found by people who want to buy your products.

So that’s the key. You have to get found.

The 13 Self-Inflicted Failures Business Owners Experience

(NOTE: This is a checklist I wrote for a recent panel I spoke on.)

This list was prepared from an interview I had with my father, Charles Davis, who owns the law firm Davis Miles. He indicated that just knowing these common mistakes before starting a business is the first step to overcoming them. The suggestions below are not legal advice. Moreover, they are my notes from an interview, so some concepts or meanings may have been “lost in translation.” Drex Davis

1. Failure to get an Accounting System set up
a. Find a good accountant to help you set up QuickBooks or some other small-business accounting program.
b. Outsource your accounting. Get a good accountant right from the get-go, one who will get your accounts structured in a way that will give you useful information. Use one who understands your business. Ask people in similar business to yours who they use for their accounting (i.e. if you have a plumbing business, ask building contractors for accountant recommendations). Doing your accounting yourself saves money in the short term and gives you more of a sense of your business strengths, but it takes away from time you should be selling and marketing.
c. Don’t run your business out of a personal account (don’t mix personal funds and business funds).
