Two inspiring things to share

First, for everyone, this incredible short music-video/film that will take you all over the world and have you laughing and smiling when you’re finished watching it. This guy has a great vibe to him.

Second, for my LDS friends, I read a talk today (word format) given in a Stake Conference by a woman who is a gifted speaker and has profound insights. Do yourself a favor by downloading and reading.

Joyeux Noel - feel good movie of the year so far

Watched this movie tonight. Needed a feel good flick that wasn’t saccharine. Joyeux Noel was perfect. Highly recommended for everyone . . .

The Prize Winner of Defiance, OH

I saw The Prize Winner of Defiance, OH last night starring Julianne Moore and Woody Harrelson, directed by Jane Anderson.

I’d recommend it. It’s an inspiring true story about a woman who supports her alchoholic, tempermental, and sometimes-volatile husband and their 10 children by entering (and winning - almost always) jingle contests.

I didn’t love Harrelson’s performance. It kept waffling between scary and comical . . . almost from moment to moment . . . but I loved Moore’s performance.

Read more about it at Amazon.

Beyond the Gates of Splendor

Tonight my wife and I watched the documentary, “Beyond the Gates of Splendor“.

In 1956 five American missionaries were murdered by the savage Waodani tribe in the Amazon basin of Ecuador as they tried to make contact with the Waodani. The wives and children of the missionaries then do something remarkable. . .they go into the jungle, to the Waodani, to serve and love them.

It’s the most amazing story about forgiveness and love that I have ever seen. And it’s true.

Your heart will be touched. You must see this.

Millions

You HAVE to see Millions, the PG movie directed by Danny Boyle (the guy who directed 28 Days Later). The movie just shines with goodness. It’s about a kid who finds a stash of cash, and he and his brother “employ” it in various ways . . .

Loved it. 5 stars.

Go rent it today. As a bonus, it has perhaps the funniest portrayal of LDS missionaries I’ve ever seen. One great exchange:

Policeman: “Where did you get the money to buy all this stuff?”
Missionary: “It was a donation.”
Policeman: “And you bought a foot spa?”
Missionary: “Well, we were praying for comfort from our discouragement.”
