Romney’s LDS Issues
A New Blog is Born (endorsed by Hugh Hewitt, among others) which will track how Mitt Romney’s Mormonism plays into his campaign.
Ths name of this blog, astute LDS readers will note, is has nothing to do with the sixth article of faith . . . so should it more appropriately be named Article 12 Blog?
The 12the article of faith Reads:
We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

Bob Novak on Evangelical Anti-Mormonism
And how it could torpedo a Romney candidacy.
From the Kansas City Star . . . Novak quoted (emphasis mine) as saying:
“Prominent, respectable Evangelical Christians have told me, not for quotation, that millions of their co-religionists cannot and will not vote for Romney for president solely because he is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. If Romney is nominated and their abstention results” in a President Hillary Clinton, “that’s just too bad.”

Why Mormonism would benefit from a Romney nomination . . .
It would expose a lot of the deep, bigoted, un-American, anti-mormonism that there exists amongst many evangelicals.
See the Slate story I linked in the “anti-mormonism” word above . . .

Romney vs. McCain
What is it they always say when it comes to warfare? Take the battle to the enemy and make him defend himself on his own soil . . . that way you keep him off your own?
I like what Romney is doing here. He’s raising money in Phoenix, AZ, McCain’s backyard.
And I’m all for this. Governers make better Presidents than Senators.

Romney Candidacy Updates
Lots of updates.
1. Romney continues to get a lot of great, high-profile press coverage.
A big Atlantic Online Story ran and you can read it here. Like the National Review and Weekly Standard pieces, it is a great, thorough introduction to Mitt Romney and the issues surrounding his potential candidacy. Unlike those articles, it gives you a great feel into the personality and character of the man via several personal anecdotes. After summing up Romney’s qualifications, the author asks whether or not Romney is just the Republican flavor-of-the week, doomed to fade into obscurity after a time of hopeful promise.
The author’s conclusion:

Romney, Press Darling Du Jour
Ears are pricking up. After landing not only a Weekly Review feature and cover, but also finding himself plastered on the cover of National Review (with another feature story to boot), the under-the-radarness of Romney is starting to be replaced by front-and-center media attention.
The question underlying all the chatter was expressed by Weekly Review - “Can a Republican governor of a Democratic state become America’s first Mormon president?”
Here are a handful of articles I thought important to understand Romney and his chances in an ‘08 Presidential election.

Romney Prepping for the Primaries?
Tonight Gov. Romney spoke to the New Hampshire Federation of Republican Women. It’s a good move. Early on he is courting a key state in the Republican Primary Process. It makes sense. New Hampshire borders Massachusetts. Gov. Romney is popular enough in Massachusetts (where his having been elected in the first place is quite remarkable) , and that good will spills over into neighboring states. This state is key if he has presidential aspirations. I think the fact that he’s from a Liberal state helps him. If he can get things done there, and still toe the conservative line, that performance may be extrapolated into the White House.
